Xilinx ise 14.7/nexys 3 spartan 612/31/2022 It's hard to write clean code in BASIC! It would be kind of fun to build a CPU that was more or less optimized for Algol or even Pascal. I had to write a tiny Algol compiler in grad school ('76) and the only machine I could get at ran time-shared BASIC. ![]() I have the original 2 volume Algol 60 books that include the source listings. Nothing has changed (or improved), just migration from board to board. I have puttered with this thing for about 10 years. The original ran at about 400 kHz with lots of steps per instruction (not to mention an adder that didn't implement carry logic but instead repeatedly applied carry operations until none remained) and mine runs at 50 MHz. The real machine had only 8k words and mine has the max of 32k words. It even has the IBM Electronic Circuit Analysis Package (ECAP) that I used in my undergrad studies. The Plotter is emulated in an mbed with the optimized output fed over TCP to my LaserJet. In addition to the CPU and Compact Flash disk drive, I also have serial ports for the Console Typewriter, Console Keyboard, Printer and Card Reader. Next I will move it to the Artix or Basys 3 if there are enough cells and it looks like there are. I started the project on a Spartan 3 Starter Board and have moved it to a Nexys2. The original was a very cool computer - the first a person could see over. It runs the entire OS including Fortran and the Macro Assembler. My project is a code perfect implementation of an IBM 1130 that I first programmed in 1970. I'm starting to come around with Vivado but it's been a struggle. I have a bunch of Spartan 3 type boards and I don't intend to scrap them just because a new chip is on the market. I have been using it for 12! I will be using ISE 14.7 forever. ISE has been around for more than 15 years. That's a pretty huge investment and I suspect they will amortize it over 10 years or so. According to the Wiki article, Xilinx spent $200M developing Vivado. ![]() This is a node and chip locked version so you can really only design for the specific chips/boards for which you are licensed (if you want to use IP). You can get free certificates for this version when you buy certain specific boards such as the Arty or Digilent Basys3 (among many others). The next version up, System (?), comes with access to some amount of IP including the ILA (Internal Logic Analyzer) which is quite handy. But the WebPack version is quite limited in that you don't get access to Xilinx IP and ChipScope won't work, among other things. Xilinx has offered a WebPack version of their ISE software for years.

Focusrite scarlett 2i2 2nd gen review12/28/2022 ![]() You even get a ‘time to install’ indication (some five minutes for Ableton, 25 for Pro Tools), rather like the time it takes to get to your gate at an airport. ![]() ![]() Essentially, this is the registration process on steroids, so you input your serial number and you get taken through a series of steps to allow you to download either the Lite version of Ableton Live or Pro Tools First that comes with the interface, with a handy instructional video about the installation. This is your first introduction to the interface, and interactive process ‘designed to help those who need it to get up and running quicker and easier than ever before’, although more seasoned users can skip it and jump straight to the software downloads, should they wish. One of the other big new features of the new Scarlett range is the incorporation of Focusrite’s new Quick Start process. I should also mention there’s a free software bundle with Live Lite and Pro Tools First, a Splice subscription, plus a good range of plug-ins from Softube, XLN Audio and Focusrite. The overall Gain Range has also been improved, from 50dB to 56dB, so it’s a promising set of specs. Conversely, the Total Harmonic Distortion figures (a measurement of distortion and noise, so the lower the better) is around half that of the previous generation, albeit from a pretty low starting point. That compares to anything between 106-109dB for the 2nd-Gens. The Dynamic Range figure – that is the difference between the output-level capability and the noise floor, so the bigger the better – is around 110dB across the new range for line, mic and instrument inputs. The technical specs have been improved, too. The top four models also boast Loopback functionality enabling you to capture any stereo feed from any hardware or software combo: useful for podcasters and those into flexible sampling. This emulates the famous AIR Studios lift in the high mids, which is a famous characteristic of the original Focusrite ISAs first used in that studio, and which were commissioned by late uber-producer George Martin for his mixer there. We’ll also be looking at the entry-level Solo as part of a new studio bundle, which comes with headphones and a microphone in a future mini review.Īll the models in this new generation boast the Focusrite Air feature that I last saw in the Clarett USB range last year. That’s a lot of new interfaces, but in this review we’ll be focusing on three models to cover the range: the entry-level Solo, the mid-range 8i6 and high-end 18i20. As you might expect, the range then steps up with more ins and outs, so you get the Scarlett 2i2 (two in, two out) the 4i4 (four in, four out and which replaces the old 2i4, adding two fixed-line inputs) the 8i6 (one of the units on test here, which replaces the old 6i6 but adds two line inputs) the 18i8 (18 ins, including eight ADAT ins and eight analogue outs) and 18i20 (18 ins and 20 outs, including ADAT I/O). The smallest is the Solo, one of the direct second-generation upgrades. There are six interfaces in the third generation of Scarletts, some direct replacements to models in the second generation, others replacements but with additional features like extra line-ins. With that cleared up, let’s get onto the new range. Finally, there are the Reds, a pro-end range of interfaces with masses of digital and analogue I/O with Dante, DigiLink connectivity and even better preamps. You might then be asking what the differences are between Scarlett USB and Clarett USB and this comes down to better mic pres and other audio specs on the Clarett range – more on these later. I say ‘would’, because Focusrite now has the Clarett USB range for super-low USB latency. It would seem, then, that the differences between Scarlett and Clarett would simply be down to Scarlett’s USB v the faster Clarett Thunderbolt interfacing standard. Clarett is Focusrite’s range of interfaces for Thunderbolt. The iTrack range is the lightning-cable-equipped range of interfaces specifically tailored for mobile iOS recording, featuring such models as the iTrack Dock and fabulous cuboid iTrack One Pre. The Scarlett range is the main USB entry point to Focusrite interfacing, boasting models for everyone from the beginner onwards.

White reaper12/28/2022 ![]() With You Deserve Love, they had everything demoed out in advance. ![]() They fell behind and had to book more studio time. Sometimes they would work for 10 hours and walk away with nothing. They had a few iPhone Voice Memos made with loose ideas, but the majority of that album was written on the spot. Two years ago, they wrote The World’s Best American Band almost entirely in the studio. “I think the hope we had making it found its way into the ether of the record in some kind of abstract sense,” keys player Ryan Hater said. “And then we got in the studio and we were like, ‘Oh yeah, this is what this feels like. “Things fell into place at the perfect time, before everyone went off the deep end,” Esposito said. They ended up signing with a major label, Elektra Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group, which provided a large studio budget. Were they going to loose the momentum that they gained in 2017 from the widely well-received album, The World’s Best American Band? But, everything worked out. They felt like they weren’t moving forward. Before they went into the studio this past January, the band said they felt like they weren’t in a good place. You Deserve Love was recorded over two weeks in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce. And I think every time we have went in the studio, we’ve made a better record than the one before by simply using the skill that we’ve crafted on the road to just do it better.” “And I think it feels really good to have that mindset. “To us, it feels like we’re the same band - we’re just getting better,” singer-guitarist Tony Esposito added. We don’t want this to be the same game three times.” And I think that’s what we’re doing with this. I guess, what I’m saying, what I like about those games is how there was something different in every game and it’s not the same game twice. In the second Tony Hawk game, they introduced manualing - they progressed - and in the third Tony Hawk game, they introduced reverts and other stuff and more combos. When the first Tony Hawk game came out, you could grind in it, but you couldn’t revert or manual. “I have a good analogy for this,” Wilkerson said. To explain their slow and careful evolution, drummer Nick Wilkerson supplied a video game reference. It’s packed with rich, new-wave-leaning tones and dense atmospheres, but the giant guitars and gritty bubblegum sensibilities still remain. 18, the band releases their fourth album, You Deserve Love, their most ambitious and wide-ranging yet. Their distinct hook-heavy, high-energy rock with splashes of punk and pop is still immediately identifiable, but they have moved past the straight-forward minimalist fury that defined their early records, embracing something with more breathability and complexity. White Reaper has spent the last half decade moving in subtle shifts.

Behind enemy lines rating12/28/2022 So, although the creeping hand of propaganda is in evidence, as long as you're inoculated against the flag-waving histrionics, Behind Enemy Lines is a great deal of brash, ballistic fun. There's even the occasional hint of intelligence, as in a scene where the frustrated NATO commander points out to a fuming Hackman that America's demand that they risk the whole peace process for the sake of one soldier is patently batty.īut - and perhaps this element was injected after the World Trade Center attacks - it soon settles, plot-wise at least, into standard Hollywood war movie territory, with swarthy Bosnians in Bad Guys position and the clean-cut Wilson as our golden-haired, all-American hero. The action sequences are superlative: a missile/jet chase scene is hold-your-breath-'til-you-turn-blue good. Newcomer John Moore steals from all the right places, topping and tailing the movie with "homages" to Top Gun, lifting a Saving Private Ryan one-man-to-rescue motif, while his post-Matrix shooting style owes a lot to Three Kings. But as long as you know that you're being comprehensively frogmarched up the garden path, it's a hell of a ride. But there the history lesson ends, and what William Goldman would no doubt refer to as "Hollywood bullshit" is shovelled in by the cartload. fighter pilot who was shot down in Bosnia and daringly rescued by American forces against NATO wishes. In this case it's the tale of Scott O'Grady (fictionalised as Lt. Carl Vinson thats based in the Adriatic Sea on duty overseeing the peace talks in Bosnia. PLOT: Lieutenant Chris Burnett (OWEN WILSON) is a flight navigator on the U.S.S. Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down takes patriotic liberties with events in Somalia, while Behind Enemy Lines has Bosnia as the background against which a true story is given a triumphal spin. Navy navigator tries to make his way out from behind enemy lines after being shot down and encountering hostile enemy forces. Hence the main Hollywood trend post-September 11 seems to be towards skewed events in American military actions. Movie Info Rating: PG-13 (War ViolenceSome Language) Genre: Adventure, Action, Mystery & thriller, War Original Language: Czech Director: John Moore. Commandos Behind Enemy Lines is one of those games that is ignored by many, but loved by a few. Worth watching at least once.As every schoolboy knows, truth is the first casualty of war. The film could have been worse, but the end result is a decent action film that delivers some decent action despite the fact that the film lacks any strong plot development to really make this a memorable action film to watch. Though this film could have been better, Behind Enemy Lines is a decent film that manages to entertain, and be mindless, fun entertainment. Behind Enemy Lines is a popcorn flick pure and simple. The film is nothing I'd call great, but for what it is, it succeeds at being mindless entertainment. The film could have been much better than this, but for the most part, it's a pleasant time waster that does entertain despite its somewhat ludicrous plot. Owen Wilson is decent here, and Gene Hackman is wasted here however. The film is entertaining for what it is, but it never does succeed at being an effective and good action that will really astound you. I did like the film, but it's not one of those films that I'll watch again anytime soon. If you can forget that aspect of the film, you may be able to enjoy it. Behind Enemy Lines is not a perfect film, but for what it is, the film succeeds somewhat at being entertaining despite the fact that the film at times fails at displaying a conventional, believable plot. ![]() The film is a departure for Owen Wilson who has worked exclusively in the comedy genre. Behind Enemy Lines is a decent action film.
