Behind enemy lines rating12/28/2022 So, although the creeping hand of propaganda is in evidence, as long as you're inoculated against the flag-waving histrionics, Behind Enemy Lines is a great deal of brash, ballistic fun. There's even the occasional hint of intelligence, as in a scene where the frustrated NATO commander points out to a fuming Hackman that America's demand that they risk the whole peace process for the sake of one soldier is patently batty.īut - and perhaps this element was injected after the World Trade Center attacks - it soon settles, plot-wise at least, into standard Hollywood war movie territory, with swarthy Bosnians in Bad Guys position and the clean-cut Wilson as our golden-haired, all-American hero. The action sequences are superlative: a missile/jet chase scene is hold-your-breath-'til-you-turn-blue good. Newcomer John Moore steals from all the right places, topping and tailing the movie with "homages" to Top Gun, lifting a Saving Private Ryan one-man-to-rescue motif, while his post-Matrix shooting style owes a lot to Three Kings. But as long as you know that you're being comprehensively frogmarched up the garden path, it's a hell of a ride. But there the history lesson ends, and what William Goldman would no doubt refer to as "Hollywood bullshit" is shovelled in by the cartload. fighter pilot who was shot down in Bosnia and daringly rescued by American forces against NATO wishes. In this case it's the tale of Scott O'Grady (fictionalised as Lt. Carl Vinson thats based in the Adriatic Sea on duty overseeing the peace talks in Bosnia. PLOT: Lieutenant Chris Burnett (OWEN WILSON) is a flight navigator on the U.S.S. Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down takes patriotic liberties with events in Somalia, while Behind Enemy Lines has Bosnia as the background against which a true story is given a triumphal spin. Navy navigator tries to make his way out from behind enemy lines after being shot down and encountering hostile enemy forces. Hence the main Hollywood trend post-September 11 seems to be towards skewed events in American military actions. Movie Info Rating: PG-13 (War ViolenceSome Language) Genre: Adventure, Action, Mystery & thriller, War Original Language: Czech Director: John Moore. Commandos Behind Enemy Lines is one of those games that is ignored by many, but loved by a few. Worth watching at least once.As every schoolboy knows, truth is the first casualty of war. The film could have been worse, but the end result is a decent action film that delivers some decent action despite the fact that the film lacks any strong plot development to really make this a memorable action film to watch. Though this film could have been better, Behind Enemy Lines is a decent film that manages to entertain, and be mindless, fun entertainment. Behind Enemy Lines is a popcorn flick pure and simple. The film is nothing I'd call great, but for what it is, it succeeds at being mindless entertainment. The film could have been much better than this, but for the most part, it's a pleasant time waster that does entertain despite its somewhat ludicrous plot. Owen Wilson is decent here, and Gene Hackman is wasted here however. The film is entertaining for what it is, but it never does succeed at being an effective and good action that will really astound you. I did like the film, but it's not one of those films that I'll watch again anytime soon. If you can forget that aspect of the film, you may be able to enjoy it. Behind Enemy Lines is not a perfect film, but for what it is, the film succeeds somewhat at being entertaining despite the fact that the film at times fails at displaying a conventional, believable plot. ![]() The film is a departure for Owen Wilson who has worked exclusively in the comedy genre. Behind Enemy Lines is a decent action film.
